He served 1 year and six months outside of the continental United States supporting the Vietnam war-effort at the U.S. Army hospital on Camp Kue, Okinawa (Japan). He served the remaining 1 year and six months back stateside with the  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C.
